Our National Medicaid Financing Practice works with clients such as states, counties, health systems, safety net hospitals, academic medical centers, physician groups, nursing facilities and medical schools. Position Description

This position offers a unique blend of responsibilities, combining corporate marketing communication with client-facing team work. Designed to build valuable knowledge and experience in multiple domains within the firm, the Associate – Communications and Client Servicing role provides opportunities for learning, career growth, a path to specialization, and cultivation of fruitful relationships throughout our growing successful organization.

Minimum job qualifications include Bachelors’ degree, preferably in health/public policy or a discipline involving persuasive or expository written communication as a core skill. Qualifications also include great interpersonal skills, and experience with and proficiency in Microsoft Office products. The successful candidate is highly collaborative and flexible and is a detail-oriented writer and editor who is adaptable to shifting priorities and managing multiple tasks and projects. A successful candidate will enjoy the firm’s results-oriented culture that rewards initiative, follow-through, and adaptability. While not required, work experience in health care or human services is desirable.

Marketing Communications

Approximately two-thirds of the role is focused on Marketing Communications deliverables. Responsibilities of the Marketing Communications function include ensuring marketing and sales content is effective, high in quality, and consistent with Sellers Dorsey branding. The marketing function is responsible for sales proposal preparation, conference participation, the firm’s website, print collateral, ads, email marketing, internal communications, deliverable branding (PowerPoint presentations and documents), and client-facing graphics. The person in this role will enjoy handling a variety of responsibilities while working closely with the Director of Marketing, the Associate Director of Marketing, the Vice President of Business Development, the business development team, and the Client Servicing Team.

The Associate – Communications and Client Servicing will have a central and highly visible position as part of a small, dynamic and growing team, and there is strong potential for growth and specialization within the position. As the firm extends its capabilities in key markets, the Associate – Communications and Client Servicing will play a pivotal role in crafting effective messaging. Furthermore, this role will contribute substantially to the creative process of designing marketing and business development tactics targeting potential clients and other audience groups.

A key function of the role is to coordinate, write, and edit sales proposals that meet submission deadlines and contain up-to-date information about the firm and its staff. Collecting and maintaining accurate proposal information by working with both Sales and Client Servicing colleagues will require organizational and interpersonal skills. Proposal management also requires the ability to identify tasks and set deadlines for colleagues responsible for technical proposal content.

Client Service Delivery

Approximately one-third of the role is focused on providing project management support to a Client Servicing team. Responsibilities include supporting Project Directors and Project Managers, coordinating the internal team, preparing for and debriefing after internal and external meetings, tracking next steps, and researching and analyzing policy including state/federal laws and regulations to understand current issues and health reform priorities. The Associate – Communications and Client Servicing will also conduct topical research, draft written and oral summaries and analyses, and provide support in other tasks as needed. The person in this position will work closely with the team’s Project Manager.

Responsibilities/Duties

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Communications

  • Assist in drafting and completing marketing deliverables such as advertisements, collateral and, in coordination with client teams, client deliverable documents and graphics.
  • Contribute marketing content for external and internal audiences by helping to identify subject matter, internal experts, and appropriate formats and venues for content.
  • Communicate with internal staff to gather written and verbal information to utilize in timely content that reflects the firm’s up-to-date expertise.
  • Coordinate with external marketing and design vendors to complete and deliver branded documents, ads and other items.
  • Review requests for proposals (RFPs) and solicitation requirements. Work with administrative and legal staff to ensure understanding and compliance with all requirements contained in an RFP.
  • Develop detailed proposal plans, create and track schedule working with all departments and relevant external partners to ensure all timelines and deadlines are met.
  • Work with business development leads to draft and deliver sales proposal letters. Develop high-impact proposal documents consistent with organizational brand identity standards, messaging and positioning, using existing templates and/or developing original content as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining/updating an organized library of boilerplate language, proposals, biographies and resumes.


Client Servicing

  • Prepare and debrief internal and external meetings.
  • Assist in tracking follow-up items and coordinating internal team to meet client deliverables and needs. 
  • Develop deliverable content to reflect the engagement contract and client needs and assure quality work product.
  • Perform data research, collection and analysis, report preparation and other related tasks.
  • Conduct topical research and provide team with written and oral summaries of analyses.
  • Review policy and state/federal laws and regulations to understand current issues and health reform priorities.
  • Develop content for external updates on current industry topics.
  • Help develop business proposals for new and existing clients.
  • Participate in non-client related firm-building activities.
  • Develop self by actively seeking opportunities for continuous learning.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in health policy, public policy or a related discipline emphasizing writing skills. Experience in health care or human services is desirable.
  • Minimum two to five years of professional experience performing communication-based work, preferably providing work product to either internal or external customers.
  • Medicaid expertise is not required for this position, but an ability to learn and articulate key concepts and messages in an easy to understand format is critical.


Skills

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including ability to produce concise summaries of technical material and develop client deliverables.
  • Secondary research skills. Knowledge of major publicly available resources useful to background research for Medicaid and other healthcare programs is preferred.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment to identify problems and offer solutions.
